Job Summary:
Machinist III ensures the efficient use of material, equipment, and personnel, in producing quality components, fixtures and tools. Responsible for ensuring work order accuracy and meeting work order due dates.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Assists in coordinating machine shop activity in assigned work areas, ensuring that work orders are continuously processed in accordance with work order due dates.
• Directs work orders to the appropriate work centers to ensure maximum utilization of the equipment.
• Ensures that quality and production goals are met.
• Advises appropriate internal and external contacts in the event of equipment failure.
• Accumulates information for assigned areas regarding work in process status and daily work order flow and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Provide feedback on defects encountered and provide re-training support as necessary.
• Aids in expediting priority work order by performing direct machining operations and tasks in assigned areas.
• Performs inspection up to and including vision systems, complex inspection equipment, and hand tools.
• Remains current on developments in Machining expertise, applicable software, and a general knowledge of industry trends.
• Resolve and/or facilitates resolution of problems including identifying causes to prevent re-occurrence.
• Actively work side by side with management to assess the best processes for work orders to be fulfilled.
• Ensure PM (preventative maintenance) and shop supplies are up to date.
• Supporting employees with their re-programing and training needs.
• Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
• Provide Machining/Fabrication expertise to quote new opportunities.
• Perform any other duties or tasks as assigned or required.
Required Skills/Abilities:
• Proven experience in fabrication and production management.
• Deep understanding of multiple machine operations (Vertical CNC, Horizontal CNC, Lathes, and manual operation processes).
• Ability to read and write programs at the machining centers.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to creating a safe work environment.
• Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements.
• Ability to revise and update tooling and programing issues as they occur.
• Excellent organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work independently with extreme attention to detail and accuracy.
• Highly self-motivated, quick learner, and able to take initiative.
• Willingness to cross-train and perform tasks of other Fabrication roles.
Education and Experience:
• High School Diploma required;associates degree preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• 8-10 years machining experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
• Duties are performed in a loud production setting subject to extreme temperatures.
• Requires standing 40% of shift.
• Frequent bending, twisting, squatting and lifting with arms extended.
• Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. Average part weighs 5-15 lbs.
• Requires good manual dexterity.
